When I was asked to be the photographer for the Hyde School Community Service trip to New Orleans, the one requirement was that I deliver a wrap-up slideshow of the week’s activities set to music. I am proud to say that I am finally done with it!
Thankfully, all my work filtering and editing each day’s photos, and posting them here and to Flickr as we went along, saved me a ton of time on this side of it; I pretty much had the universe of photos to work from already. But, I still needed the right songs to convey the message of the trip’s purpose- one of hope, healing, and helping. I think I succeeded, but I’ll leave that up to you…
(Unfortunately, the high quality of my original video/photos didn’t transfer to Google video… it’s pretty pixelated… but, it’s free! You can download the video by going here.)
This version is what I’ll call the director’s cut. A second, slightly altered version (which includes names and additional end credits) will be shown tomorrow (4/12) at Hyde’s Spring Family weekend. The primary purpose of the slideshow is to be a marketing tool for the school, and hopefully, get more kids interested in doing community service in following years. But, I also wanted it to be a sort of keepsake for the people that went.
You learn something new every day…
Like I mentioned above, I learned that we still have a ways to go as far as transferring quality videos. But I can’t complain too much because Google video is free, and it offers a great way to share the video with others. I also learned that this video was a TON of fun to make! It really brought back some great memories, and I think setting them to music enabled me to provide a deeper emotional element that may be missed by just viewing the photos.
