Day 5- Habitat for Humanity, Musicians’ Village

Today was the first of our four-day stretch working with Habitat for Humanity in Musicians’ Village in the upper 9th ward. It was an early, dreary morning…

And we were split into two groups at separate sites, each tasked with different phases of home construction. One house, which is slated to be the future home of a mother and her two young kids, needed to be insulated. So, with a little guidance from Eric of Habitat, the kids got up-close and friendly with fiberglass… even on the underneath side of the house!

The other house was further along and needed some trim work done. With Jim leading the way, several students got to use power tools! *insert masculine bark here*

And though the day started rainy and dreary, the sun eventually broke through and illuminated all the colors and hard work being done in this area!

Tomorrow- same bat time, same bat channel. But, for more photos of today’s events, check out my Flickr slideshow!

You learn something new everyday…

U-turns are an integral and vital element to New Orleans’ street system and traffic management… though I’m not entirely convinced of their effectiveness.
